How to enable USB debugging on any Android device.

USB debugging is an option that you can find in your phone’s settings. This term may seem a bit daunting at first, but it really isn’t. USB debugging isn’t just a nice Android feature for advanced users, it’s there for everyone. In fact, this mode mainly exists to make it easier to connect your Android smartphone or tablet to your PC. Though developers use it to create apps, a normal user would do this in order to do things like gain access to your phone remotely, get pictures and other files instantly, root your Android device, as well as help mend a bricked phone with ADB terminal commands. Here we discuss how to do this on any phone, as well as show you what else you can do once you have enabled USB debugging.

How to activate USB debugging

First up you need to ensure that you have installed the correct drivers for your device on your PC, which should have happened automatically the first time you connected your phone to your PC. If you don't think has happened already, we’ve covered this in another article explaining exactly how to install Android USB drivers on your computer.
Now we're good to set up USB debugging via your device's Developer options. If you are unable to find the Developer options in the settings menu, you may need to activate them first:
  • Go to the settings of your device.
  • Scroll down to ‘’About phone’’.
  • Tap on build version about 7 times until you see a message saying Developer options are activated.
  • Hit back and this time you will see that the Developer’s options appear at the bottom of the settings menu.
  • Tap on this, and scroll down until you see USB debugging, which you will then enable.

If you have a device which is running Android 2.3 or earlier, here are the steps to follow:
  • Open the settings
  • Tap on Applications (sometimes called Apps or App Manager)
  • Scroll down until you find the Developer options
  • Tap on this and enable USB debugging
You are all done! USB debugging has been activated, so now you can install advanced programs to your Android device, like Eclipse, or One Click Root which allows you to easily get root access on your device. You can also use your smartphone remotely if you have broken the screen. There are are many advantages to doing this.
Did you give it a try?
